I bring meaningful solutions to life for people

User-centered Design • User Research • Rapid Iteration • Product Strategy

I have nearly 8 years of experience in UX, immersed in design teams with startups, enterprises, small teams, and large companies. I'm adept at making sense of and designing for complex systems. Close collaboration with teams is my specialty in an end-to-end process - from discovery through design to development. My mobile, application, and responsive web designs span diverse sectors including civic tech, data, e-commerce, financial software, education, publishing, food, automobile, retail, and non-profit.

I serve as co-chair and mentor with the Seattle chapter of Hexagon UX, give design talks, and care about mentoring the next generation of UX professionals. Most recently, I dove into design on Socrata, a government data platform acquired by Tyler Technologies, the REI e-commerce website, the REI in-store mobile POS system, Intuit's QuickBooks Online, and a 5-star app Snap Payroll. I incorporate my user research background into my holistic design process, and am an alum of Bolt Peters, the late leading firm in remote user research. A retired semi-professional oboist, I studied Music Performance and Culture & Social Anthropology at Stanford University.

I've worked with

ethn.io • Harvard Business Review • Harvard Business School Publishing • Intuit • League of Women Voters • Meals on Wheels • MINI USA • Obama for America • Open Seattle • Project H Design • REI • Socrata • The New York Times • VMware • Walmart Labs

I've shared my work at

What team members say

Catherine is awesome! First and foremost, I want to share that it has been a pleasure working with her. She’s an incredibly talented designer. When she joined the MSA team, she immediately changed the team dynamics in a positive way with her good attitude and passion. One aspect of Catherine that comes to mind as being especially impressive, is her ability to quickly understand who our customers are, and her desire to advocate for them. Additionally, she has been such a strong advocate for our team and supportive of our fellow store employees.
Working with Catherine is very enjoyable; our design sessions are very efficient and she is on top of her game. Our discussions are open, honest and frank, she wants to understand “how things work” in order to make the best use of it.
Catherine is an absolutely awesome research partner and teammate! She has built great relationships with everyone on the team, and is a willing and open-minded collaborator. She is always excited to jump right in and jam on ideas and research opportunities — she actively shares the many insights that her work uncovers to help the team iterate and improve.
